The Final Post

The Heaven Shop- by Deborah Ellis.
= I still reading this book, and I'm enjoying this book. I sometimes cannot understand the word or the sentence, but I can see that the main character, Binti, trying hard even she lost their parents and that made me feel so interesting with that book.

The Paper Bag game.
I think I will enjoy this game. I can learn something more by the game.

I want to say the student who will come to this class that this class need a deep thought, and first time it will feel little bit boring, but if you keep thinking the other side of the world, you will feel this class interesting.

Haiti research

1. The state of Haiti’s children after the earthquake.
-Many people killed, so the children were became orphan, or injured and lost their family.
- Ten of thousands of people killed under their 29-year rule.

2. What human rights are being denied to them?
- UN has described the human rights situation of Haiti as “Catastrophic”
- The huge wealth gap between the impoverished Creole-speaking black majority and the French-speaking minority, 1% of whom own nearly half the country's wealth, remains unaddressed.

3. What action is being taken to address this?
- French-speaking minority need to donate the money to the black majorities, who are poor. Also, the government need to participate more on education and health or food.

4. Discuss the difficulties faced by this country as it tries to recover the earthquake.
- Many Haitians seek for the work, and the better life.

5. Why can some countries rebuild faster than others, and what is it about Haiti that put it at the disavantage?
- The countries need to get help from the other countries, who were developed.
- Also it depends how much does the country poor. If the country have a lot of money and strong government, they can rebuild the broken places but if the country is poor, and doesn’t have a lot of money and food, they will be hard to rebuild the government, they might need to wait for other country to help.

6. Find out what is happening now in Haiti, and how it is recovering since the earthquake.
- The earthquake started at January, 12 2010. About the 25,0000 people dead, and that earthquake appeared between 200 years ago. The place became a hell, and they started to rebuilt the government. From now days, the Capital of Haiti became really different than last time. Haiti start to develop. Unicef and other countries helped them, giving the clear water and stable amount of food.

3rd world farmer reflection

Describe the game. What was the purpose of the game?

- I think the purpose of the game is to think how are we going to earn money and to be healthy. Also, we have to think hard, not just to whatever we want.

Describe and explain your strategy during the game.

- My strategy is to farm. I thought I need money to buy something, and also I thought medicine need money, so I did many farming, so I earned big amount of money.

What is a short- term decision?

- Short- term is a reality - how to get food, how to pay for it. Development has stopped and survival has taken over.

Why are they bad?
- Short- term is bad because it stops to be develop.

Why could somebody in a situation of poverty get stuck in a cycle of short-term decision-making?
- Maybe because it keeps happening and happening. If this happens, people cannot go to school because they don’t have much money. Then they cannot get education, also they will be having a hard time farming to earn money.

What could get them out of this cycle?
- There are one solution: More efficient farming.

What is a long-term decision?
- It is opposite of the Short- term, which is a strategies that you can apply in order to develop.

Why are they good?
- There are no problem that stops to get develop, and because there are no problems, people can go to school, to get education and to earn money.

Why do long-term decisions lead to development and increased standards of living?
-
What did you learn from playing this game?
- During I was playing this game, I thought earning money is really difficult and also to be healthy. This game was really hard because when I got a trouble, I lost most of my money or my things. So I felt so sad that some people in this world get this type to things.

Which SLR does this experience identify most closely with and why?
- I think the SLR ‘Learn Enthusiastically’ can identify most closely with this experience. The reason that I picked this is that when I did the game, just I said, I felt hard and also sad that there are people who live like that. So I think we need to learn Enthusiastically to understand that people and to care them.

Which MDG’s does this simulation relate to and why?
Image (also screen shot onto desktop) – and URL (remember to source properly!)
